The Stock Investors of Alby

The class has ended for the evening. The participants remain seated, discussing and coming up with ideas. They talk about money matters, companies, and stock. The class has triggered too many ideas for anybody to go home just yet. This class is just one of a series of activities intended to give young adults in Botkyrka the inspiration they’ve long been thirsting for. Welcome to Changers Hub.

Changers Hub is a space in the Albys Hjärta youth centre, where members between the ages of 17 and 25 encourage each other to realise their ideas. And they never seem to run out of ideas – ranging from socially transformative ideas to pure business opportunities.

– We all grew up in Botkyrka, and we all saw the same need growing up here. When we had a good idea, we never had anybody around to discuss it with, which meant that a lot of ideas were abandoned early on, says Siduri Poli, who is one of the founders.

Changers Hub supports its members by, in various ways, giving them access to networks, inspiration, and knowledge. One way of doing this is the Börshajen class, which is about investing in the stock market to improve your own personal finances. This class is very appreciated, and filled up in no time.

– A stock market class in Alby? Who would have thought, right? It’s nice to see people who live in other places have to travel all the way out here, rather than just going to the city to take a class about the stock market, says participant Dilshan Fernando.

Two of the participants agreed that the information they were given in the class would help them improve their personal finances.

– It’s given me insight into how I can manage my personal finances better, to provide a more secure future for myself, says participant Sargon Orahim.

There is a shared realisation that knowledge of the stock market can be one of the most important factors in achieving more stable personal finances in the future.

– Knowing about the stock market is just as important for the young people of Alby as it is for the young people in the inner city. We democratise success by making it more accessible, Siduri Poli concludes.
