Cirque Alfonse’s Tabarnak

A fiesta in circus for the whole family. Live music, breathtaking acrobatics, humor and singing. The show-stopping Canadian company Cirque Alfonse returns to Sweden with their new performance Tabarnak! You don’t want to miss this!

Cirque Alfonse is not just a company, it is also a family. In the small community where the group grew up in Quebec, the village church was the central gathering place. A place where people met for all kinds of events. The word tabarnak means tabernacle, the place where the blessed communion bread is stored in the church, but the word is also used as a curse word in Quebec. Tabarnak, the show, on the other hand, is a unique fiesta that leaves no one without a smile!

A big part of Cirque Alfonse’s success is the music. Quebecois folk music draws a lot of inspiration from traditional Celtic party music, and mixed with the breathtaking acrobatics and humor of the company this show flips the pews upside down.
– It’s a show that brings people together to enjoy life! says Antoine Carabinier Lépine, one of the founders of Cirque Alfonse.

In 2013, the company had a success with the show Timber! and the energetic circus, infectious joy and live music that is Cirque Alfonse’s unique style. Now they’re back! And Antoine Carabinier Lépine, who has also previously worked with Cirkus Cirkör, is particularly pleased.
– We’re really excited to go back to Sweden, it’s going to be so exciting and fun.

About the Company

Cirque Alfonse was founded in 2005, and their first show La Brunante premiered in 2006. The artists in Cirque Alfonse have worked with a number of well-known circus companies, including Montreal-based companies Les 7 doigts de la main and Cirque du Soleil, as well as Circus Cirkör here in Sweden. This brave and creative group of artists blends the many techniques of the circus arts with traditional Quebecois folklore.

The tour with Tabarnak is possible thanks to financial support from Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts.
