A juggling collage that unites circus and art history, absurdism and zest for life in a world of plywood, balloons, and duct tape.
The performance is a work in progress presentation, which means it has not yet had its official premiere.
Inspired by Kandinsky’s color compositions and Magritte’s visual poetry, David Martin explores juggling as a musical and visual language of color, form, and movement. In fragments and sequences, he winks at 18th-century circus horses and seals as the animal kingdom’s best jugglers – and dreams of new circus traditions.
Using plywood, cardboard, napkin confetti, and duct tape, David creates a do-it-yourself circus – an embrace of the world’s absurdity and an attempt to approach life’s extraordinary circus with joy. With little dances, little melodies, and little celebrations.
About the artist
David Martin learned to juggle from his mother at the age of five, a skill that became his lifelong passion. He has studied multimedia, art history, and circus in Paris, and was trained in the Circus Program at Stockholm University of the Arts. In 2025, David Martin was selected as a finalist in CircusNext, the European support platform for the circus authors of tomorrow.
